Perth Observatory: SMS & Email Alerts

A subscription to the Perth Observatory SMS or email Alert Service will give you rapid notification of interesting events visible to the naked eye.

These events may include:

• Solar eclipses (do not look at the Sun with the naked eye!),
• Lunar eclipses,
• Planetary groupings (conjunctions),
• Meteor showers,
• Lunar occultations,
• Daytime visibility of the planets Venus and Jupiter (do not look at the Sun with the naked eye!),
• Bright satellite passes,
• Satellite re-entries,
• Perihelic oppositions of Mars.

Or, are you interested in rapid notification of unusual and potentially spectacular transient events witnessed by Perth Observatory astronomers during the course of their evening work? These events may include:

• Aurora Australis,
• Bright comets,
• Planetary transits (do not look at the Sun with the naked eye!),
• Visible novae,
• 22º halos around the Sun or Moon,
• Parhelia (sundogs) of the Sun,
• 'UFO' pranks.

Estimated average number of messages: 10/month.

NOTE: It is not intended to broadcast other general astronomical news that is not;

1. Time critical, or
2. Accessible to the naked eye.
