CELESTIA PHOTOGRAPHICA - an astrophotography exhibition |
![]() |
Ever since Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei turned his telescope toward the heavens, humankind has longed to capture those fleeting messages of light sent to us by the stars. Since the invention of photographic glass plates, film and modern day CCD instruments, both professional and amateur astronomers have used these tools to capture some of the most spectacular and awe-inspiring visions ever recorded in human history.
The Perth Observatory presents 'Celestia Photographica', an exhibition of astronomy images taken by their resident astrophotographer, Richard Tonello as well as contributing astrophotographers (and part-time Observatory volunteers) Vic and Ben Levis.
These works combine the use of both old and new technologies (traditional film, digital processing, CCD and narrow-band imaging) to showcase a small, yet amazing display of some of the finest objects found in our galaxy and beyond.

Celestia Photographica was officially launched at Scitech on 19th February. It is on display throughout IYA2009 at the following location.
